Margaret River Surfing Beaches resort
Margaret River is world renowed for its surfing. The Roaring Forties in the Southern and Indian ocean, produce year round swells. We have provided a list of some of the best surfing beaches in the region. Be sure to visit the Margaret River Visitors Centre where there is a detailed map showing the best surfing beaches.
Margaret River Mouth
This is a good beginner's beach. The surf is small and manageable.
Boranup Beach
South of Margaret River, through the Boranup Forest, you will find long white sandy beaches with crystal clear water and excellent surfing conditions. There is big surf here. If you have a 4WD you can access the beach from Hamelin Bay carpark.
Redgate Beach
Redgate Beach is also south of Margaret River. Consistent wave breaks on small to 3m swell. Good surf those learning to surf. Can get windy and choppy. A beautiful beach with sand and rocks, rockpools and coves. Only facilities are toilets.
Directions: Drive south from Margaret River about 1.2 kms towards Augusta. Take a right turn at Boodjidup Rd, head south-west for about 7.4 km until you reach the T-junction at Caves Rd. Turn left and drive south for about 3 km until you come to Redgate Rd. Follow sign to Redgate Beach.
Surfers Point at Prevelly
Surfers Point is probably the best known surfing spot in the region. The Margaret River Pro (formerly known as the Margaret River Masters) is held here every year just after Easter. The event attracts over 200 of the world's best surfers. The Margaret River Classic is also held here every year in November. With its big swells, this area is best suited to experienced surfers. Waves break left off the reef.
Directions: From Margaret River drive to Prevelly on Wallcliffe Rd. Turn right before you get to Prevelley and park in the free carpark overlooking the break.
Injidup
A good surfing spot in a SW wind and is known for its right breaking waves at Car Park. Pea Break and Mitchells offer long lefts.
Located off Caves Rd, Yallingup.
Three Bears
Three Bears is one of the best surfing spots in the region because of its consistent right and left-breaking waves. The best spots are named Mama, Papa and Baby Bear. Swells up to 3m. Best for experienced surfers. Waves come off a rocky reef and the bottom is sharp with rocks. Three Bears is between Yallingup and Sugarloaf Rock and access is by 4WD. It can be crowded in summer.
Yallingup
Yallingup has produced a number surfing stars. Both left and right breaking waves off a rocky reef. It can be crowded on weekends. Surf can be very big at times. Best for experienced riders. Yallingup has a protected lagoon and is good for snorkelling and swimming.
