Whale Watching - Margaret River

In the Margaret River wine region of Western Australia the most common whales you will encounter are humpback, southern right or blue whale possibly from the shore line but with greater frequency from one of the region's whale watching tours. In our experience midday is the best time to witness these majestic mammals in their element, however as with all animals there are never any guarantees and Mother Nature holds the agenda!

In early June, see humpback and southern right whales playing and splashing in Flinders Bay Augusta as they travel north to enjoy warmer waters to breed and give birth to their calves.

September is the month to travel to Dunsborough to witness the largest mammal in the world the blue whales and calves enjoy the safety and serenity of Geographe Bay. Also in September you can witness the spectacular humpback and southern right whales from the shores off Albany.

In the Margaret River region you can enjoy and witness these spectacular mammals throughout the whale watching season which runs from June to October. If you are a land lover and don’t like boats then some prime lookout points include Whale World, Sandpatch, Rotary Lookout, Bremer Bay (John Cove) and Point Ann. Don't forget to take your binoculars if you are whale watching from one of these fantastic vantage points! And don't forget to book your accommodation by visiting our Margaret River Accommodation homepage.
